Judson Theatre Company 2015 Season!

As Executive Producer of Judson Theatre Company, I'm excited to announce our 2015 Season!

Our fourth season opens with Neil Simon’s comedy smash Plaza Suite, starring Eve Plumb (best known as “Jan” on The Brady Bunch). Laughter abounds in this portrait of three couples in the swinging 1960s occupying a suite at New York’s Plaza Hotel: a suburban couple who are revisiting their honeymoon suite in an attempt to rekindle the romance in their relationship; a much-married Hollywood producer who reunites with his childhood sweetheart, now a suburban housewife, who has idolized him from afar over the years; and the parents of a nervous bride who’s locked herself in the bathroom with the wedding waiting downstairs. Time magazine declared the original Broadway production “An avalanche of hilarity!” and indeed, Plaza Suite is a clever comic meditation upon the effects of time upon love. Show dates: June 18-21. BUY TICKETS

In the fall, the laughter continues with the beloved Pulitzer Prize winning hit Harvey by Mary Chase. It’s the story of Elwood P. Dowd–one of the modern theatre’s most beloved characters. Charming and kind, Elwood has one quirk: an unwavering friendship with a 6’3 1/2″ invisible rabbit named Harvey! It’s a classic comic fantasy about losing your mind–and finding your real (and imaginary) true friends. Show dates: September 24-27.

Fun PARADE article about our STEEL MAGNOLIAS star, Dawn Wells!

Here's a neat PARADE article about Judson Theatre Company's Steel Magnolias star, Dawn Wells of "Gilligan's Island".  2014 is the 50th Anniversary of the show, and Dawn talks of (among other things) her history making short-shorts! Fun!

Next up at Judson Theatre Company - BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE!

Judson Theatre Company's (www.JudsonTheatre.com) next production is John Van Druten's magical romantic comedy Bell, Book and Candle!

Check out our logo:

After years of being rarely produced at the professional level, several high-profile regional theatre companies have staged the play over the past few years. We put it on Judson Theatre Company's audience survey this past spring--and sure enough, our wonderful patrons didn't let me down. When BB&C showed up as one of the most popular plays on the survey, we took it as a sign: the time to do it is now!

In addition to being a fan of underappreciated playwright John Van Druten, I've always particularly loved Bell, Book and Candle.  It's truly a magical play--a comedy of charm.  Van Druten wrote the stage plays I Remember Mama, The Voice of the Turtle (which ran for three seasons on Broadway), Old Acquaintance (probably best known as a movie) and I am a Camera (which was one of the sources for the musical Cabaret). Van Druten directed the original Broadway production of The King and I, as well as directing the original Broadway production of Bell, Book and Candle.

I first saw a community theatre production of the play when I was a child, which made me track down the Jimmy Stewart/Kim Novak/Jack Lemmon movie on VHS (it was a long time ago!). Through the years I've seen several professional productions, and finally, it's all culminating in a chance to work on this wonderful show. Hope you'll be there so we can share this show together.

It's November 7-10 only at Owens Auditorium in Pinehurst, and tickets and info are at JudsonTheatre.com.

Temple Theatre's FOREVER PLAID is a H-I-T!

So happy to share with you all this review of FOREVER PLAID at Temple Theatre in Sanford, NC.  Get your tickets now at templeshows.com--the show has already been a strong seller, and reviews and word of mouth will likely put us over the top!

Here's the review in Boom.

Favorite pull quotes: "It’s a zinger. From the solemn processional chant, “Deus Ex Plaid” to the tightly emotional “Love Is A Many Splendored Thing” this show, if you’ll pardon the expression, rocks."

and:

"The delivery of lines is perfect, quick and funny...Director Morgan Sills, who has played all four roles in this show, keeps it spunky, taut and fast-paced."

And finally:

"Sanford is only a short drive from Raleigh or Cary, but if it were twice as far it would still be worth the drive to see this show.  A really nice night out."

So go see FOREVER PLAID at Temple Theatre and take someone you love!

Here's a letter to the editor of the Sanford Herald: "Every seat should be filled for FOREVER PLAID."
